Gembird ABS 1.75 mm 1 kg – A durable and tough filament for functional 3D printing

Discover the versatile Gembird ABS filament (1.75 mm, 1 kg), which is the ideal choice for producing mechanically stressed parts, functional prototypes, casings and durable components. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is a strong, flexible and thermally stable low-density thermoplastic, which makes bulky prints lightweight yet very strong.

The high precision of the filament, with a tolerance of ±0.05 mm, ensures smooth and even extrusion of the molten material. The material has high impact strength (16 kJ/m²) and heat resistance up to 85 °C. Furthermore, prints can be easily machined (sanded, drilled) or smoothed using acetone vapours.

Key benefits

  • High mechanical strength and toughness: Excellent resistance to impact, cracking and mechanical wear.
  • Thermal stability (HDT 85 °C): Printed parts withstand higher temperatures than standard PLA or PETG.
  • Low density (1.01 g/cm³): Enables the printing of strong yet dimensionally lightweight models.
  • Excellent post-processing options: Easy sanding, painting and the option of chemical smoothing using acetone vapour.
  • Wide compatibility: Designed for FDM/FFF 3D printers with a 1.75 mm filament diameter and a heated bed.

Recommended print settings

To achieve the best results and eliminate warping, we recommend printing in a covered build chamber. Print within the range of 225–240 °C with the heated bed set to 90–110 °C. To ensure perfect adhesion of the first layer, use a specialised adhesive agent (e.g. Dimafix, 3Dlac or ABS juice). Switch off or significantly reduce print cooling (0–20 per cent) to prevent layer delamination.
